So, in summer 2024, we launched a provincewide campaign to encourage drivers to reflect on their own behaviour behind the wheel and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ama.ab.ca\/community\/get-back-in-the-habit\">Get Back in the Habit<\/a>&nbsp;of safe driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign is informed by the leading causes of collisions in Alberta, along with an AMA survey showing a significant gap between the risky behaviours that drivers witness on our roads and what they\u2019ll admit to doing themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch the video above to learn more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><strong>Stop signs<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ama-purple-color\">7% of Albertans<\/mark><\/strong> admit they roll through, but <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-color-bittersweet\">48% say they frequently witness this behaviour.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large desktop-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/tailgate-bars.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-371\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large mobile-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/tailgate-bars-m.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-372\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><strong>Speeding<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ama-purple-color\">12% say they speed<\/mark><\/strong>, but fully <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-color-bittersweet\"><strong>79% frequently witness speeding<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized desktop-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/turns-bars.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-369\" style=\"width:853px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized mobile-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/turns-bars-m.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-370\" style=\"width:853px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><strong>Improper turns<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ama-purple-color\">1% admit they do this<\/mark><\/strong>, but <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-color-bittersweet\"><strong>29% frequently witness it<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large desktop-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/speed-bars.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-367\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large mobile-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/speed-bars-m.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-368\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><strong>Tailgating<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ama-purple-color\">Only 1% say they do this<\/mark><\/strong>, but <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-color-bittersweet\"><strong>58% frequently see it occur<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large mobile-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/stop-bars-m.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-366\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large desktop-only\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-impact.ama.ab.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/01\/stop-bars.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-365\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong><em>Source:<\/em><\/strong><em> AMA survey of 1,882 Albertans<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-img-ripple-top-right\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Know Before The Tow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While Alberta\u2019s tow industry is highly reputable, the behaviour of a minority of unscrupulous \u201caccident chasers\u201d is resulting in huge headaches\u2014and even bigger costs\u2014for unsuspecting motorists. As a leading consumer protection advocate, we knew that the best way for Albertans to stay safe was to know their rights. So, in late 2024, we created Know Before the Tow: an awareness campaign to help motorists feel confident in refusing aggressive or unsolicited tow services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also worked with government to advocate for increased protections for motorists in these roadside situations. AMA continues to lead the way in tackling these crimes through advocacy, awareness, and education. Across our various prevention campaigns, the core of this work is a message to be proactive and remain vigilant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Recognizing that theft is often a crime of opportunity, AMA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ama.ab.ca\/community\/build\/crime-prevention\/vehicle-theft\">Lock It Or Lose It<\/a> program\u2014which began in 2018\u2014reminds Albertans that the power of prevention is in their hands. And our <a href=\"https:\/\/ama.ab.ca\/community\/build\/road-safety\/catalytic-converter-engraving\">Tag Your Cat<\/a> program, active since 2023, provides members with an easy and affordable way to fight catalytic converter theft.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside other stakeholder efforts, our target impact is to help reduce automotive and property-related theft across the province.
